Answer:

The speed of boat is 36.85 km/h

The speed of current is 13.55 km/h

Step-by-step explanation:

Given as :

The Speed of motor boat down stream =  50.4 km/hr

let The speed of boat = x km/h

the speed of current = y km/h

So, for down stream

 x + y = 50.4 km/h                 ..........1

Again

The Speed of motor boat down stream = 23.3 km/hr

let The speed of boat = x km/h

the speed of current = y km/h

So, for up stream

 x - y = 23.3 km/h                 ..........2

Now,

Solving eq 1 and 2

i.e (x + y) + (x - y) = 50.4 + 23.3

Or, (x + x) + (y - y) = 73.7

Or, 2 x = 73.7

∴    x = \dfrac{73.7}{2}

or, x = 36.85  km/h

So, The speed of boat = x = 36.85 km/h

Put the value of x in eq 2

x - y = 23.3 km/h

i.e  y = 36.85 - 23.3

∴   y = 13.55 km/h

So, The speed of current = y = 13.55 km/h

Hence, The speed of boat is 36.85 km/h

And The speed of current is 13.55 km/h Answer
