Time taken for sound to cover 680m in air = 2 seconds

Distance covered by sound in water at the same time  = 3 km

Explanation:

Speed of sound in air = 340 ms–1

Speed of sound in water = 1500 ms–1

(i) Cover 680 m in air.

Distance = speed * time

680 = 340 * time

Time = 680 / 340 = 2 seconds

Time taken for sound to cover 680m in air = 2 seconds.

(ii) Distance covered in water in the same time.

Time = 2 seconds.

Distance = speed * time = 1500 * 2 = 3000 metres = 3km

Distance covered by sound in water at the same time  = 3 km
