Given: speed of sound in air = 300m/s

           speed of sound in liquid, s = 440 m/s

           distance covered, d = 6.6km

To Find: total time taken by sound, t.

Solution:

To calculate, the formula used:

  • distance = speed x time
  •            d = s x t

Applying the above formula:

6.6 = 440 x t

First, convert km into m:

1 km = 1000m

6.6km = 6.6 x 1000

          = 660m

Put the value into the formula for t :

660 = 440 x t

    t  = 660/440

       = 66 / 44

       = 3/2

       = 1.5

   t = 1.5 s

Hence the total time taken by sound is 1.5 seconds.
