. The speed-time graph of a car o
a car of 1000 kg mass is given. On the basis of these answer following questions
(i) When is the maximum accelerating force acting on car?
(i) What is the retarding force acting on the car
(iii) For how long is no force is acting on the car?
(iv) What is the velocity of the car after 4 seconds?
(v) Find the acceleration of the car during each of the first two intervals of four second each.

I) a = ∆v/∆t, this implies that more the change in velocity in lesser time gives higher magnitude of acceleration.

In the third interval, from 8th to 10th second, the same velocity has gone zero in two seconds which was increased in 4 seconds in the first interval of 0th to 4th second.

Thus magnitude of acceleration is maximum in case of third interval.

ii) The retarding acceleration,

a = ∆v/∆t = -20/2 = -10 m/s²

And the force will be,

F = ma = 1000 x (-10)

F = -10000 N

negative sign here shows that the force is acting opposite the motion of body.

iii) If no force is acting on the car, it means that there is no velocity change... which can be seen in the second interval of 4th to 8th second.

iv) From the graph it is clearly seen that just after 4 seconds the velocity of car is 20m/s

v) in first interval acceleration,

a = 20/4 = 5 m/s²

in the second interval

a = 0/4 = 0 m/s²
