Acceleration = 2.3 m/s2

Between 2 & 10, acceleration = 0

Last 2 seconds, acceleration = -2.3 m/s2

Explanation:

  • Velocity-time graphs are used to describe the motion of objects which are moving in a straight line. From the graph, we can obtain the acceleration and displacement of the moving object. Acceleration is the slope of the line and displacement is given by the area under the line.

        Acceleration = slope of line AB = 4.6 - 0 / 2-0  = 2.3 m/s2

  • Between 2 and 10 seconds, the lift is of uniform speed. So acceleration of the lift = zero.
  • During the last 2 seconds, graph slows retardation. So acceleration will be -2.3 m/s2.
