Sperm is an highly motile structure . The energy comes from the large number of mitochondria present in the mid piece . Er ,ribosome , golgi bodies are needed in cells which undergo metabolism but sperms survive on glucose which needs no metabolism so there is no use of golgi bodies and sperm has no use of proteins so it is devoid of ribosomes and Er and its main aim is to contract the nucleus in such a short space . The DNA in sperm is coiled more extensively to accommodate it in a small space . More number of mitochondria more the motility which inturn increases the fertilization rate
