Given : the square of a number is 10 more than three times the number

To Find : The Number

Solution:

Let Say Number is N

square of   number  = N²

10 more than three times the number  = 3N + 10

Equate both

=> N² = 3N + 10

=> N² - 3N - 10 = 0

Using middle term split

=> N² - 5N + 2N - 10 = 0

=> N (N - 5) + 2(N - 5) = 0

=> (N - 5)(N + 2) = 0

=> N = 5 , N = - 2

Hence Numbers are  -2  and  5

Verification :

(-2)² = 4

3(-2) + 10  = 4

4 = 4

5² = 25

3(5) + 10 = 25

25 = 25
