Answer:

Given the Volume of the room = 500 cubic meters

The paining cost of 4 walls of the room = Rs. 1600

The cost of the painting per meter-square = Rs 8

So, The area of the four walls together = 1600/8 =200 square meters

It is given the base of the room is a square.

Let us assume length of each side is ‘a’

So area of the base (which is a square) = a^2

Let us assume the height of the room is ‘h’

So the volume of the room = (a^2).h

The surface area of the four walls = 4.a.h =4ah …………………Eqn (1)

We know the volume = 500 = (a^2).h

The know the surface area of 4 walls = 200 =4ah………………..Eqn (2)

By dividing Eqn (2) by Eqn (1) we get

(a^2).h / 4ah = 500/200

simplifying a/4 = 5/2

So a=10

The side of the square is 10 and hence the area of the base is 100

From the volume being 500 the height is 500/100 = 5 m

Verification:

The area of one wall is 10 x 5 =50

4 walls area 4 x 50 = 200

The total cost of painting = 200 X 8 = Rs. 1600 (given)
