Given square root of 784 by repeated subtraction

We know that square number is the sum of successive odd numbers. Therefore we need to find square root of a number by repeatedly subtracting successive odd numbers from 1 until 0 is obtained.

   Now 784 is the number.

   So 784 – 1 = 783

        783 – 3 = 780

        780 – 5 = 775

        775 – 7 = 768

         768 – 9 = 759

         759 – 11 = 748

         748 – 13 = 735

         735 – 15 = 720

          720 – 17 = 703

           703 – 19 = 684

           684 – 21 = 663

            663 – 23 = 640

             640 – 25 = 615

              615 – 27 = 588

              588 – 29 = 559

                 ..

                 208 – 49 = 159

               159 – 51 = 108

                108 – 53 = 55

                   55 – 55 = 0

So the 28 th term is o and square root of 784 will be 28.
