Given : The standard deviation of 10 observations is 4 each observation is divided by 2

To find :  new standard deviation

Solution:

Standard Deviation  = √(Σ(X - Mean)² / n )

The standard deviation of 10 observations is 4

If each observation is divided by 2

then X  will be  X/2

& mean will be Mean / 2

=> (X - Mean )² = (1/2)² = 1/4  times

√ 1/4  = 1/2

Hence  new standard deviation will be existing standard deviation /2

= 4/2

= 2

new standard deviation = 2
