The vertical jump test is very effective in determining the physical fitness of an athlete. A person stands side on to a wall and then reaches up by keeping the hand on the wall.
The feet are kept flat on the ground and the fingertips point is recorded. It is known as the "standing reach". Then a height of a jump is recorded by putting chalk on the fingers.
Then the person stands away and jumps vertically using the legs and arms to help in thrusting the body up trying to touch the same wall at its highest point as much possible.
The difference that is achieved between a standing reach height and the subsequent jump height determines a score.
