Jharkhand located in the northeastern part of the Indian sub-continent means "The Land of Forests".

Its state flower is the Palash flower. This flower is associated with folk traditions and culture of Jharkhand. Butea monosperma is the Latin name of flower. The beauty of dry deciduous forests of Jharkhand are at their peak when most trees have crossed autumn and the Palash is in its full bloom.

This flower got its name after the famous Battle of Plassey. The battle took place at Palashi (Anglicised version: Plassey). This place is situated on the banks of the Hooghly River in West Bengal.

Palashi is geographically located approximately 50 kilometres north of the city of Krishnanagar in Kaliganj CD Block in the Nadia District of West Bengal.
