Telgana Minister Mr. Harish Rao asked the engineers to revitalize the chain-link tanks. This is being done to restore the minor irrigation system. This is also done to free those places from the encroachments.
This state was dependent from the period of Satavahanas and Asaf Jahis. Satavahana’s rule started in “first century BCE and lasted till the second century CE”. Asaf Jahis ruled from A.D. 1724 to 1948. They helped Telegana and other parts of Andhra to improve in all the way. They constructed reservoirs for irrigation.
Mr. Harish Roa mentioned not to waste too much of money over clearing the slits from the tanks instead he asked them to focus on the revival of tanks and to concentrate in removing the encroachments.
The minor irrigation system will get life, if the chain-link systems are revived. Most of the farmers of this place are dependent on this system and it will be a boom for them all.

This was announced by the Minister for Irrigation Tanneeru Harish Rao at a review meeting held on minor irrigation here on Monday. He pulled up for not taking the issue seriously and directed the engineers to strengthen the minor irrigation system by reviving the chain-link tanks system, on which most of the irrigation in Telangana relied on from the eras of Satavahanas and Asaf Jahis.
Asking the Engineers to expand the extent of irrigation under the minor irrigation systems, the Minister said it was possible with revival and Restoration of Tanks, Pons and lift Irrigation schemes. He reminded the officials that about Majority of Irrigation sources for irrigating their lands. The government has set a target of bringing 25 lakh acres under Irrigation under 40,000 tanks by the end of the current financial year.
