The Medical Council of India (MCI) was a statutory body for establishing uniform and high standards of medical education in India till 25 September 2020. On 25 September 2020 it was replaced by National Medical Commission. The Council grants recognition of medical qualifications, gives accreditation to medical schools, grants registration to medical practitioners, and monitors medical practice in India. The last President of MCI was Dr. Jayshreeben Mehta.
