On the directions of the Deputy Commissioner, the Drainage Department has identified as many as seven flood prone sections alongside the Sutlej River that could cause severe damage to the adjoining areas.
The flood prone sections, including Khasowal complex, Ismailpur complex, Bhanewal complex, Baupur complex, Danewal complex, Meuwal complex and Bholewal complex, have wreaked devastation in adjoining villages many times in the rainy season.
It is notable that farmers have been demanding the permanent arrangements at these sensitive sections for years as their crops have been damaged due to floods.
Farmers have alleged that they have not been provided with the satisfactory compensation for the damage caused by floods.
Deputy Commissioner Kamal Kishor Yadav held a meeting on May 12 with officials of irrigation and drainage departments to identify the flood prone areas alongside the Sutlej River.
