It is correct to say that this story is a story of human endurance, selflessness and courage in the face of adversity because of the situations that we read in the story.

This story possesses selflessness and courage and it is depicted through the situations in the story where the family members and the crew help each other during the storm in the Indian Ocean. Everyone was worried about each others safety and well being. Even the children were helping their parents and the captains with whatever they could.

It was stated in the chapter that if we have to die then we all will die together and we are not afraid of death or anything bad to happen if we all stay together. This shows that everyone was courageous enough to accept their fate on that stormy night.

Explanation:

In the story, ‘We are not afraid to die if we are can all be together,’ the narrator,  his 'wife' Mary, his 'son' Jonathan and 'daughter' Suzanne exhibited great courage in a grave situation. They are ready to die if they have one another by their side.

'Gordon Cook', his family, and 'crewmen' set sail from 'Plymouth' for a world trip. They showed great courage, endurance, and selflessness when they were caught up in the sea amidst an explosion and strong gales.  They did their best to survive this disaster although they were injured.

The narrator’s children said, ' We are not afraid to die if we can all be together’. These words gave the narrator even more courage and determination to see that his children landed safely.
