The strength of the magnetic field around an infinite current carrying conductor is - dependent on the current and distance.

Consider AB as an infinitely long conductor through which there is a flow of current I. P may be considered as any point at a distance 'a' from the center of the conductor. Let 'dl' be the small current carrying element at point c at a distance r from point p. α be the angle between r and dl. l be the distance between center of the coil and elementary length dl.

By applying the Biot-Savart law,
the final expression for the total magnetic field in a conductor having infinite length is:

∅1 = ∅2 = π/2

B = µ°/ 4π I/a (sin π/2 + sin π/2)

B = µ°/ 4π I/a 2

B = µ°/ 2π I/a units
