We use simple past tense-
⇒ when we refer to an action that has already been completed before the time of speaking. For example ,
It snowed yesterday.
She cooked last afternoon.
⇒ to indicate that something was done in the past as a habit. For example ,
My mother always enjoyed gardening.
As a young boy , I exercised a lot.
⇒ to express an action that occurred over a period of time in the past. For example,
I lived in New Delhi till the age of five.
