The Topic - Voices !!
In English Grammar, there are two types of voices. They are:
- Active voices
- Passive voices
↦Active voice: A sentence is said to be in active voice if it's subject performs the action to its object.
- Structure – Subject + Verb + Object
- Example – They had completed the work.
↦Passive voice: The sentences where its subject receives the action from the object are said to be in passive voice.
- Structure – Object + Helping verb + Verb 3 + by + Subject
- Example – The work had been completed by them.
* Rules to change a sentence from active to passive:
- Pick out the subject, the object and the verb in the sentence.
- Identify the tense of the verb in the sentence. Once you've identified, then recall its structure of passive voice according to the tense.
- Interchange the places of subject and object.
- If the subject is a pronoun, then change it into its appropriate object pronoun.
- Insert the suitable auxiliary verb (by referring the structure).
- Change the verb to its third form i.e, to its past participle form.
- Insert the word "by" before the subject.
- End the sentence with a full stop.
