The students of a School were asked to participate in a competition for making and decorating penholders in the shape of a cylinder with base , using cardboard . Each penholder was to be of radius 7cm and height 17.5 cm . The School was to supply the competitors with cardboard. If there were 45 competitors , how much cardboard was required to be bought for the competition?

Answer:

Cardboard used for 1 penholder= Curved Surface Area of cylinder+ Base Area

                                                      =2πrh + πr^{2}

                                                      =2X\frac{22}{7}X 7 X 17.5 + \frac{22}{7} X49\\

                                                      =770+154

                                                      =924 cm^{2}

Total cardboard needed= 45(924)=  41580cm^{2}
