Let no. of students = contribution per student  be x
Contribution = x² = 2401
ans = √2401 = 49
∴ There were 49 students in the class

Let X be the no. of students in the class + Total money donated by them.

 \implies \tt{x \times x = 2401}

 \implies \tt{ {x}^{2}  = 2401}

 \implies \tt{ x =  \sqrt{2401} }

 \implies \tt{ x =   7 \times 7 \times 7 \times 7 }

 \implies \tt{ x =    {7}^{2} }

 \implies \tt{ x =    {49}}

Number of students in class is 49.
