The pant community in an area is the most sensitive indication of climate. Areas with moderate to high temperature and abundant rainfall throughout the year are heavily forested. Areas with somewhat less rainfall are mainly grasslands, which are called prairies in North America.

Humans have converted grasslands into rich agricultural areas around the world. Even in areas with high yearly rainfall, trees are scarce is there is not much rainfall during the warm growing season. Regions with not much rainfall and scarce vegetation are called desserts.

Natural vegetation is related closely to the climate of a region and has great impacts on one other owing to their being interconnected.

The climate of a region results in some plants thriving and scarcity of some plants.

By studying the kind of natural vegetation in a region, the kind of climate the region has can easily be ascertained.
