.The Yarn of the Nancy Bell"The Yarn of the Nancy Bell" I think this poem is actually kind of humorous in the story it tells. Sure it is a little bit sad in the fact that a big bunch of stranded sailors turn cannibal to stay alive, but people get desperate to survive. It is a little sick in the cannibalistic ways, but its humor shines through at the end.The Yarn of the Nancy Bell" I think this poem is actually kind of humorous in the story it tells. It's funny because they talk about how their best friends, but the narrator can't cook food. Thus, the cook decides he will eat the narrator and starts making the pot. Once preparations are completed, the narrator dumps the cook in and eats him. Oddly enough, last year in Law and Everyday Life, we researched a court case dealing with this same type of incident, over in London. Three people were stranded on a life raft for days. They had run out of food and water and were near their ends. They drew straws to see who would be eaten. They all had agreed on it. Once the straws were drawn, the person who drew the short one backed out on the deal. The other two then killed him and ate him. Two days later they were rescued by a barge. When police found out about the incident, they arrested the two men and they then faced murder charges. They were found guilty, because since he backed out of the deal, it was no longer binding. Since they killed him, it was considered murder. I just thought it was interesting and was relevant to this poem. It's a sick and yet funny one, all at the same timePls
