The submucosal layer in the wall of alimentary canal is formed by loose connective tissue containing nerves, blood, and lymph vessels.

  • The four layers of alimentary canal are:
  1. Serosa-the outermost layer .Made up of this mesothelium and connective tissue.
  2. Muscularis-it is the second layer and is made up of smooth muscles
  3. sub-mucosa-it is the third layer and is formed of loose connective tissue.
  4. Mucosa.-it is the innermost layer .
