Answer:

b) Baji Rao II

Explanation:

In 1802, Bajirao II signed the Subsidiary Alliance convention with the British. This alliance is well known as the Treaty of Bassein, With this British gained control of Maratha homes. He inked the Treaty of Bassein and entered the Subsidiary Alliance. While the British saw this as a chance to intermediate in Maratha politics, the Maratha leaders were angry. This act ultimately led to the Second Anglo- Maratha War.

Peshwa Baji Rao II was the 13th and the last Peshwa ruler of the Maratha Empire. He governed from 1795 to 1818. He was installed as a poppet sovereign by the Maratha patricians, whose growing power urged him to flee his capital Poona and subscribe to the Treaty of Bassein( 1802) with the British. This redounded in the Second Anglo- Maratha War( 1803 – 1805), in which the British surfaced victoriously and -installed him as the nominal Peshwa. In 1817, Baji Rao II joined the Third Anglo- Maratha War against the British, after they favoured the Gaekwad patricians in a profit-participating disagreement. After suffering several battle defeats, the Peshwa surrendered to the British and agreed to retire in return for an estate.
