Acids are the compounds which when dissolved in water forms hydronium ion as only positive ions .

PROPERTIES OF ACIDS.

▶Reacts with alkali to give salt and water.

▶Reacts with an active metal ti give hydrogen.

▶Reacts with a carbonate or bicarbonate salt to give salt, water and carbondioxide.

▶Reacts with sulphite and sulphate salt to give salt ,water and suplhur di oxide.

▶Reacts with sulphide salts to give hydrogen sulphide.

TYPES OF ACIDS :-

◼MONOBASIC ACID

Have only one replaceable hydrogen ion .

Example :- HCl

◼DIBASIC ACID

Have two replaceable hydrogen ion.

Example :- sulphuric acid.

◼TRIBASIC ACIDS

Have there replaceable hydrogen ions

Example :-phoshphoric acid.
