Vocational Education

Vocational Education is a mode of education that is subject specific. It ensures that a student is channelised to a particular course or field only. It is thus sometimes referred to as career and technical education.

Vocational Education has been successful in various fields. For a large and highly populated country like India the number of school and college drop outs are much higher than other countries.

Those procuring regular University degrees also have to suffer from employment due to lack of skills.Vocational Education enhances skill development. It ensures that a student undergoing a particular vocational course perfects in that field.

Further, there may be many students particularly good or extremely interested in a particular field but weak at the rest of the subjects. For such students Vocational Education is very fruitful.

Vocational Education offers flexibility of age, time and choice. It provides better chances of employment, work satisfaction, short time courses and immediate scope of being hired.

Vocational Education however has certain failures. Vocational Education

helps achieve a very short term goal. It retards the scope for higher education. It retards the career graph as there is no scope of promotion for lack of higher qualifications. Managerial opportunities are limited. The scope of education is limited.

Thus Vocational Education poses many successes and failures.
