Equivalent mass of compound of sulphate= Equivalent mass of element + 48

equivalent weight of SO4 ion= 96/2

It is given that the sulphate of element contains 42.2% element

then 57.8% is sulphate

let the mass of compound is x

then,57.8% of x= 48
x=83.04
×=Equivalent mass of element + equivalent mass of sulphate ion
83.04=E+48
E=35.04

hope it helps.
