As

a+b =16. and

a-b=14

》 a= 14+b

Putting value of 'a' in equation

a+b=16

we get

14+b+b= 16

14+2b=16

2b =16-14

b=2/2

b=1

Hence,

a+b=16

a+1=16

a=16-1

a =15
