\huge\text{\underline{Answer}}

\sf{\underline{Given }}

Sum of two number is 8.

Their sum is 4 times their difference.

\huge\sf{solution:}

Let the numbers be X and Y

Then,

X + Y = 8

(X + Y) = 4(X - Y)

we have to find X and Y.

\implies \bold{ x + y = 8}

\implies \bold{ x = 8 - y}------eq1.

\implies \bold{x + y = 4x + 4y}

\implies \bold{x - 4x +y + 4y = 0}

\implies \bold{- 3x +5y = 0}

multiplying both side by -1.

\implies \bold{3x - 5y = 0 }

Putting the value of x.

\implies \bold{3(8-y) -5y = 0}

\implies \bold{24 -3y -5y = 0}

\implies \bold{8y = 24 }

\implies \bold{y = 3}

putting the value of you in equation 1.

\implies \bold{x = 8 - 3 }

\implies \bold{x = 5 }

hence the numbers are \bold \red{ y = 3 , x = 5}
