Let the two numbers be x and y
The sum of two numbers is 12
x + y = 12 ====> (1)
Their difference is 2
x - y = 2
x = 2 + y ===> (2)
Now substituting value of x from (2) to (1)
x + y = 12
2 + y + y = 12
2 + 2y = 12
2y = 12 - 2
2y = 10
y = 10/2 = 5
Substituting the value of y in (2)to derive value of x
x = 2 + y
x = 2 + 5
y = 7
The two numbers are 7 and 5 .
hope it helps !!

Answer:
let the two numbers be x and y
x+ y = 12 ............(1)
x- y = 2. .............(2)
from 1 and 2 we get ( since sum is there)
x + y + x - y = 12+2
2 x = 14
x= 7
Now finding value of Y
x + y= 12
7+ y = 12
y = 5
