let the the no.'s be x and y

then we have,

x+y=17-(1)

and xy=60-(2)

from (1) ,

×=17-y

nkw put gjis value in equation (2) , we get

(17-y)×y=60

17y -  {y}^{2}  = 60 \\  by \: taking  \: left \: terms \: towards \: right \: we \: get \\ =  >  {y}^{2}  - 17y  + 60 = 0 \\  =  >  {y}^{2}  - 12y - 5y + 60 = 0 \\  =  >  {y}(y - 12) - 5(y - 12) = 60 \\  =  > (y - 12)(y - 5) = 60 \\ either(y - 12 )= 0 \: or \: (y - 5) = 0 \\ y = 12 \: or \: y = 5
