Let the smaller number be x.

So, the larger one = (x+5)

Their sum = 39

According to condition,

x+(x+5) = 39

or, 2x+5 = 39

or, 2x = 39-5

or, 2x = 34

or, x = 34/2

or, x = 17

So, the smaller one = x = 17

and the larger one = (x+5) = (17+5) = 22

Hence, the numbers are 17 and 22.

Answer - C) 17 and 22
