Let the smaller number be a and the larger be b

Thus a+b=40

2a=14b

a=7b

Thus 7b+b=40

b=40/8

b=5

Thus a=35

Thanks

\huge{\bf{\underline{\red{Answer :}}}}

  • Let the smaller number be x
  • Let the larger number be y

So According to First Conditions :

⇒ x + y = 40 ............1) equation

According to second Conditions :

⇒ 2x = y + 14

so y = 2x - 14 .................2) equation

Now put the value of y in first equation :

∴ x + (2x - 14) = 40

⇒ 3x = 40 +14

⇒3x = 54

x = 54/3

x = 18

Now put the value of x in second equation :

⇒y =  2(18) - 14

⇒y= 36 - 14

y = 22

(Hence the smaller number is 18 and Larger number is 22)Answer
