let the four consecutive odd numbers be

X , X +2 ,X +4 , X + 6 ,

given:

their sum is 56.

by the given condition,

X + X +2+X +4 X + 6 = 56

X + X + X + X +2+4+6=56

4x +12= 56

4x = 56 -12

4x = 44

X = 44/4

X = 11

the value of greatest number=

X+6

= 11+6

= 17

Answer:

let 2n+1,2n+3,2n+5,2n+7 are the 4 consecutive odd numbers

2n+1+2n+3+2n+5+2n+7=56

8n+16=56

8n=56-16

8n=40

n=40/8

n=5

odd numbers are 2(5)+1,2(5)+3,2(5)+5,2(5)+7

11,13,15,17

therefore the greatest of four numbers is 17.
