If tens digit is x and ones digit be y .

then, the number be (10x + y) .

If x + y = 5 ( Given )

then, x = 5 - y

(10x + y) - 9 = (10y + x)

=> (10x + y) - (10y + x) = 9

=> 10x + y - 10y - x = 9

=> 10x - x - 10y + y = 9

=> 9x - 9y = 9

Put the value of x in equation :

=> 9 (5 - y) - 9y = 9

=> 45 - 9y - 9y = 9

=> (-18y) = 9 - 45

=> (-18y) = (-36)

=> y = -36 / -18 [ (-) ÷ (-) = (+) ]

=> y = 2

then, x = 5 - y

=> x = 5 - 2

=> x = 3

then, the number is 10x + y

=> (10 × 3) + 2

=> 30 + 2

=> 32
