the sum of a number and a 1/7 of it is 88 what is the number

Answer:

Let the 1st number = x

2st number = x/7

x+x/7 = 88

8x/7 = 88

8x = 88×7

x = 88×7/8

x = 77

1st number = 77

2st number = 77/7 = 11
