The sum of a number and its positive square root is 20. Find the number

√x + x = 20

let √x = a

therefore, a + a^2 -20 = 0

a^2 +5a -4a -20 = 0

a(a+5) -4(a+5) = 0

(a-4)(a+5) = 0

a = 4. a=-5 (rej. as it should be positive square root)

x= 16.
