Setting the problem into an equation, we get: x + 1/x = 29/10

Solving the equation (see the pic), we arrive at the equation:

(-5x + 2)(-2x + 5) = 0

Thus, x can only be:

-5x + 2 = 0

5x = 2

x = 2/5

or

-2x + 5 = 0

2x = 5

x = 5/2

Verifying the answer: 5/2 + 2/5 = 29/10

Therefore, the number is 2/5 or 5/2.

let x be no.

x +  1/x = 29/10

x² + 1 = 29x/10

10x² -29x + 10 = 0

10x² -25x - 4x + 10 = 0

5x(2x - 5) - 2(2x - 5) = 0

(5x - 2) (2x-5) = 0

x = 2/5 or x = 5/2
