let the ones place digit be y

Then the number would be 10x+y

If the digits are interchanged the number would be 10y+x

Its given that sum of these 2 numbers is 88.

10x+y+10y+x=88

11x+11y=88

Sum of digits=x+y

Difference of digits=x-y

x+y+x-y=8 (as given)

2x=8

x=4

Now putting the value of x in equation A we get

x+y=8

4+y=8

y=4

Hence the number is 10x+y = 10(4)+4=44
