Step-by-step explanation:

Let the age of father be x.

Let the age of son be y.

So, at present

x + y = 54

=> x = 54 - y

After 6 years

( x + 6 ) = 3×( y+6)

=> 54 - y + 6 = 3y + 18

=> 60 - y = 3y + 18

=> 60 - 18 = 3y + y

=> 42 = 4y

=> y = 42/4

=> y = 10.5 years = 10 years 6 months

So x = 54 - x

= 54 - 10.5

= 43.5 years = 43 years 6 months
