=> $x = 50 - y$

five years ago,the product of ages was 175. find their ages

lets again form an equation

=>$(x - 5)(y-5) = 175$


let us put x from euqation 1

=>$(50- y-5)(y-5) = 175  =>[tex](45-y)(y-5) = 175$

=>$45 - y^{2} -225 + 5y =175$

=>$y^{2} - 50y +400 =175$


=>$y^{2} - 10y -40 y+400 =175$

=>$(y-10) (y -40) = 0$

=>hence daughter = 10 and mother is 50 at present
