Correct Question:- The sum of the age of father and the son is 48 year . the quotient obtained by dividing the age of son by the age of father is 1/ 5 .find their ages.

Solution:- Let the age of father = x years

Age of son = (48-x) years

According to Question,

 \frac{48-x}{x}= \frac{1}{5}

5×(48-x) = x

240-5x=x

240=x+5x

240=6x

x=  \frac{240}{6}

 \therefore x=40

Now,age of father = x = 40 years

Age of son = (48-x) years

= 48-40 years

= 8 years
