the sum of dinomerater and numretor of a fraction is 18. If dinomerator is inscreased by 2 the fraction reduce to 1/3 find the fraction

Let the fraction be x/y.

Acc. to the ques.

x + y = 18

x = 18 - y...........1

x + (y +2) = 1/3

3x = y + 2...........2

Subs. the value of x in eq 2
  
3(18 - y) = y + 2

54 - 3y = y + 2

4y = 52

y = 13

x + y = 18

x + 13 = 18

x = 18 - 13

x = 5

Fraction = x/y

              = 5/13

Ans. = The fraction is 5/13.
