Sn= n/2 [2a+(n-1)d]

where,

n= total number of terms

a= starting term

d= common difference between each term

Example,

1,3,5,7,9,11,13,15

in the list og A.P. given above,find the sum of those numbers?

Answer-

Total terms = n = 8

starting term = a = 1

common difference between each term = 2

Therefore,

On applying formula of sum of A.P.

Sn= n/2[2a+(n-1)d]

= 8/2[2×1 + (8-1)2]

=4[2 + 14]

=4×16

=64
