Given: A solution.

To find: We have to find the mole fractions of solute and solvent of a solution.

Solution:

A solution is made with a solute and a solvent.

Let a solution be formed by dissolving n moles of solute in m mole of solvent.

Thus, the mole fraction of solute is

 \frac{n}{n + m}

The mole fraction of solvent is-

\frac{m}{n + m}

The total mole fraction is as follows-

\frac{n}{n + m}  + \frac{m}{n + m} \\  \frac{n + m}{n + m}   \\  = 1

The total mole fraction is one.

The sum of mole fractions of solute and solvent of a solution is 1.
