Let the numbers be x and y
So,
Case 1 :-
X + y = 146.... (1)
and ,
Case 2 :-
X - y = 18....... (2)
Now ,
From equation two we have
X - y = 18
Or,
X = 18 +y... (3)
Putting (3) in equation (1)
Substitution of x in equation (1).
So,
X +y = 146
Or,
18 + y+y = 146
Or,
2y = 146 - 18 = 128
Or,
Y = 128/2 = 64
Now ,
Putting the values of y on equation 3 to obtain x.
X = 18 +y
Or,
X = 18 +64 = 82
Hence ,
The two numbers are 82 and 64
So,
Case 1 :-
X + y = 146.... (1)
and ,
Case 2 :-
X - y = 18....... (2)
Now ,
From equation two we have
X - y = 18
Or,
X = 18 +y... (3)
Putting (3) in equation (1)
Substitution of x in equation (1).
So,
X +y = 146
Or,
18 + y+y = 146
Or,
2y = 146 - 18 = 128
Or,
Y = 128/2 = 64
Now ,
Putting the values of y on equation 3 to obtain x.
X = 18 +y
Or,
X = 18 +64 = 82
Hence ,
The two numbers are 82 and 64
