HEY:-

Let x/y be a no.

Now,

x+y= 18_________(1)

x/y+2 =1/3

3x=y+2

x=(y+2)/3

putting in eq 1

x+y=18

(y+2)/3+y=18

(y+2+3y= 18×3

4y+2 =54

4y=54-2

4y= 52

y= 52/4

y= 13

putting valur of y in eq 1

x+y=18

x+ 13=18

x= 18- 13

x= 5

Required fraction = x/ y = 5/13

Answer:-

Fraction →5/13

Given:-

Sum of numerator and denominator = 18

If denominator is increased by 2 , the fraction reduces to 1/3 .

To find :-

The fraction.

Solution :-

Let the numerator be n and denominator be d.

A/Q

 n + d = 18 ---- eq. 1

 \dfrac{n}{d+2}= \dfrac{1}{3}

By cross Multiplication,

 3n = d + 2

 3n -d = 2 -------eq. 2

Add equation first and second,

 n + 3n + d -d = 18 +2

 4n = 20

n =\dfrac{20}{4}

 n = 5

Now put the value of n in eq. 1

→ n + d = 18

→5 + d = 18

→d = 18 - 5

→d = 13

hence,the required fraction will be  \dfrac{5}{13}
