let numerator be x and denominator be y

so fraction is x/y

given sum of numerator and denominator (x+y) is 3 less than twice the denominator

x+y =2y-3

x+3 = 2y-y

x+3 = y

y-x = 3

we need another equation that must be mentioned in the question either the question is incomplete or you have typed the wrong question....

so,hope this helps u....
