Let numerator = x

and

Let denominator = y

So, x + y = 13-----(1)

Also,

x - y = 3 -----(2) or y - x = 3------(3)

Adding (1) and (2) we have

2x = 16 \:  \implies \: x = 8

 \implies \: y = 5

So required fraction = 8/5

Adding (1) and (3) we have

2y = 16 \:  \implies \: y = 8

 \implies \: x = 5

So required fraction = 5/8

Answer:

given ( sum of numerator and Denominator is 13)

and their difference is 3)

Step-by-step explanation:

step 1-

let numerator is x

and also let denominator is y

then

A. T. Q

x+y=13 (1)

and

x-y=3 (2)

apply substitution method

x+y=13

x=13-y (3)

put (3) in (2)

(13-y)-y=3

13-y-y=3

13-2y=3

13-3=2y

10=2y

y=5

put value of y in equation 3

x=13-y

x=13-5

x=8

therefore fraction is x/y=8/5

but this is improper so we take x is equal to 5 and y is equal to 8

therefore required proper fraction is y/x =5/8..
